Leonardo daVinci got his name from the town of Vinci, Italy where he was born. He lived over 500 years ago, born in 1452 and died in 1519. Leonardo is known as a genius for his many endeavors: he invented military weapons including an early form of a tank and a helicopter, he invented instruments and designed bridges, he drew detailed human anatomy and maps of Europe.
