Salvador Dali was a Spanish artist who lived from 1904 to 1989. He is known for his style of painting that has been labeled Surrealism. Dali was a very colorful character who became a celebrity because of his art, an unusual accomplishment in modern times. He not only created paintings, but directed films, wrote music, was a photographer and an author of books. Most Dali paintings are recognizable for the strange landscapes and are often used to represent an image of mystery or horror. He is most well known for his painting The Persistence of Memory.
